Edale is a superb base for all types of outdoor activies from walking to cycling, climbing to horse riding, paragliding to potholing - there really is something for everyone.   For those wanting something more relaxing, there are caves, castles and wildlife parks to explore too.   Please see below for a taster of the activities available.

Bagshawe Cavern - A largely natural cave system discovered by lead miners in 1806.   Open to the public on summer weekends as a show cave and for Adventure Caving.

Blue John Mine - Blue John Mine is a popular cavern which was once mined for lead and Blue John.

The Chestnut Centre - Otter, Owl and Wildlife Park

Eldon Hill and Eldon Hole - A large (and now unused quarry) and cave site, and the deepest local pothole; an alarming, evil-looking chasm in the side of Eldon Hill to the north of the village of Peak Forest, Derbyshire.

Peak Cavern - Unravel the mysteries of the Devil's Arse and step into the unique world of Peak Cavern. Unusual rock formations, the eerie sound of running water and echoes of a bygone age await you. Set in the middle of the picturesque Peak District, deep into the cliff is the Cavern's imposing entrance chamber - the largest natural cave entrance in the British Isles.

Peveril Castle - Perched high above the pretty village of Castleton, the castle offers breathtaking views of the Peak District. Founded soon after 1066 by William Peverel, one of William the Conqueror's most trusted knights, it played an important role in guarding the Peak Forest.

Speedwell Cavern - An underground cave system set at the foot of Winnats Pass high above the village of Castleton, Speedwell Cavern takes you on an incredible underground boat journey.

Treak Cliff Cavern - A show cave near Castleton where Blue John Stone is mined.

Cycle Hire - Derwent Cycle Hire is situated in the picturesque Derwent Valley. It is accessed from the A57 Sheffield to Glossop road and can also be reached by public transport. Cycle beside the historic Derwent and Ladybower reservoirs through beautiful woodland.

Horse Riding and Pony Trekking - - Ladybooth Equestrian Centre can cater for all your horse riding needs.
